Russel’s friendship with Gunnar gets him into deep water. These are not perfect people but teenagers learning and growing with one more issue to cope with on top of everything. I’d strongly recommend you skip it. Then his online geograpgy chat buddy turns out to be none other than Kevin, the popular but closeted star of the school’s baseball team.
Russel’s date tries to have sex with him and he puts her off by saying he’s a virgin and he wants his first time to be special. They decide to meet and end up discovering three more gay, lesbian and bisexual teenagers that go to their school and decide they would like to form their own support group. I loved him as a character as well; hartingre so awkward, nice, and hilarious in an adorable teenage boy way.
Even on the edge of this abyss, Russel fails to inform Gunnar that he couldn’t go through with it.

This would be a good book for adolescents struggling with their sexual identity. My convction is that you can’t force someone to come out, no geogrqphy how much you love them. Now, I loved those shows and I think it would actually be cool to have gay characters in them but that doesn’t make Brent Hartinger good.
