"Fleeting" Aroma ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Ted Hausotter Date: Wed, 05 Sep 2007 23:01:07 -0700 Subject: "Fleeting" Aroma If we are concerned with fleeting aromas, maybe we should judge them as they would be served on Saturday night in a pub, smoking optional. Why not judge beers as they are commonly served? Seriously, I have never understood the snort your beer either. In wine you let it sit and let the obnoxious aromatics dissapate as we look at the color hue and clarity. In beer we knock them down if on opening the bottle we detect DMS that dissapears quickly. What are we trying to prove? Balanced judging is in order. The fleeting aromatics should be noted on score sheets but on the points take the duration of aroma in account. I understand sensory blindness will came to play, but should we not know when we will get sensory blindness from practice judging?
