Then just find another word that better describes what you are looking for, because "real" isn't it. As a suggestion, how about "artisanal"? I'm sure there are a few Mead Lovers in here that would love to revisit that discussion. ;-) Cheers Brian ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Bradish, Dwight Date: Wed, 15 Aug 2007 09:58:37 -0700 Subject: Real beer vs Other beer Hi Judges, What I'm really worried about is the scenario that I may be sitting on a panel and get non real beer, i.e. a counterfeit beer. How do I know it isn't real, it could be an excellent imitation of real beer. I need guidelines for this occurring, if I get a fake beer do I call for the head judge to make sure it is a fake, for that matter how does he identify it is a counterfeit beer? What if I am the head judge or worse the organizer and this accused imitation beer is brought to my attention, do I disqualify it? My gosh, the implications of what you guys are discussing here is that counterfeit beers are being entered as real beer in competitions. This is horrendous, maybe then all of our past competition results have been compromised and we may have to reevaluate the results! Why I may never trust a beer again unless I made it, or in some other way I'm sure it isn't a counterfeit, so perhaps I should send you guys all the beer entered in the next competition I organize so you can certify it is all real! And what about when a judge exclaims "Wow taste this beer it is so good it is unreal!" That is a disqualifier if I ever heard one. Well I hope you see my point, this real beer discussion could be taken to an extreme in which all beers are suspect of not being real, because who can prove it is unless we have designated brewing observers making sure that the beer is real by watching every brewers process. Even then bottles could be switched and a counterfeit could be substituted for the real beer. So I guess we shouldn't worry about it, but if you insist I will be on the lookout for counterfeit, i.e. non-real beer.
