Brown Date: Sat, 11 Aug 2007 20:32:38 -0400 Subject: "Real" Beer Bob Paolino states: "But to hear some of the objections to the use of the modifier, "real," I hope the advocates of deletion are also lobbying folks in Britain and Canada to change the name of their beer appreciation/education societies to "Campaign for Ale."" I think you miss the point there, Bob. CAMRA INTENTIOANLLY uses the term "real" specifically to distinguish from pressure kegged beers. It is exactly this distinction that would seem to carry over to our own organization. I really doubt anyone is seriously suggesting the RBJCP should only judge hand pumped ales. The 13th annual Commander SAAZ Interplanetary Homebrew Blastoff is coming up in September. We are expecting this year to be even bigger and better than last year's 450 entries, especially since we are a MCAB qualifying event again this year. We will be judging entries the two weekends before the Splashdown - SAT/SUN 9/8 and 9/9, and SAT/SUN 9/15 and 9/16 - at the home of one of our members in Titusville, FL. Chet has a large estate and has offered to let folks camp out on the back 9 and take a dip in his pool between sessions. Judging will start at 9:00 AM all days. Lunch and dinner will be served, and there will be a special tasting on the Saturday evenings. The main event and final judging will be September 22nd at the Holiday Inn Cocoa Beach Oceanfront in beautiful Cocoa Beach, FL (very near 'I dream of Jeannie Blvd'). Reservations can be made at the Holiday Inn (321-783-2271) using our event code (SAZ). If you are interested in judging, or just in attending, please contact Steve Mitchell (321-537-9517 or cmdr.saaz`at`saaz.org) or Glenn Exline (Prez@saaz.org) for more information The Commander SAAZ page on our website (www.saaz.org) is updated with all of the current info. We are still finalizing the menu for this year's Splashdown party, but that should be up in the next week or so. (It will be on par with last year's offering though!) Entry cutoff this year is September 6th, so you have plenty of time to get your bottles packed and ready to go. And don't forget those Rocket Fuel entries! There is lots more information on our website (including the rules and entry information). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: rick franckhauser Date: Mon, 13 Aug 2007 11:56:07 -0700 (PDT) Subject: Oktobers'Best Zinzinnati 2007 Call for Judges and Entries for the Oktobers"Best Zinzinnati 2007.
