I think we're seeing the OoOs now because I think I read recently (?) that Chuck was going to be away for a while and not moderating. It's probably happening a lot more than we see, and they probably ARE being deleted when the list is moderated. But why should those messages clutter Chuck's inbox for him to have to delete them? As Dick suggested, a separate email account for mailing lists is one option. Another is simply to take a little more care when setting up an OoO message, if you feel that you must use them at all. I believe most email clients provide the option to establish rules for auto-replies (including situations in which an auto-reply should not be triggered), including specifying incoming email addresses or patterns of text in the subject line. The use of OoO auto-replies is probably an example of a little knowledge being dangerous... i.e., someone knows enough to be able to use the feature, but hasn't taken the time or effort to learn to use it _properly_ ;-) Just my 41 cents' worth.
