If the competitions are too far away then organize a competition closer to
where you live.   Perhaps there are other judges that would like to judge
closer to home as well.

To the best of my knowledge, you have to have an income in the same enterprise in order to take a deduction (at leaast without almost ensuring an audit). Where are you getting "Judging income?"
