This should close the loop. - - - Dave, I didn't submit the information directly, though I tried. As much as I love working with the AHA, the one fly in the ointment was the competition registration webform. I had suggested to Gary [Glass] that I could fix this for him several times in the past ~ without charge. Typically the information would be incomplete, or the event URL was too long for the form, or in the case of this year - I could not complete the payment transaction which was really odd since I was on IE6. In all cases, and just about every year for every event, I'd call it in. And I didn't mind one bit because I enjoyed talking to Kate [Porter] on the other side; there's nothing like having a friendly chat of beer and business, yes? :o) It was during the last chat (Cascadia Cup) that I learned the AHA was in the midst of handing over all registrations to the BJCP, and I made note of that for my next event. The short list of judges means that the method for requesting information has changed within the BJCP recently as well. From the time when Russ [Wigglesworth] or you or some third agent began distribution of files by snail/email the Judge Lists have been from the region and not the state. Now we have a choice of states; that option was never available on the AHA form. And now, it's no longer an issue since we're exclusively registering through BJCP (I have no worries). Dave, I think I registered directly with the BJCP once in ten years, so I would not have experienced any recent changes with registration, simply spoken. It seems more likely to me that the recent UI changes on the BJCP site exposed the opportunity to select states and thus reduced the default to the home state. It's just a presumption, but tell me if I'm wrong :o) So~ for a creature of habit, such as myself, the expectation of complete information was altered to no-fault of any person, but by circumstance. Therefore my position is to raise the point to a visible level so that folks can be aware of the feature as well as the results. That in itself is a salient and sellable point. I'm not the only Organizer that got caught by this. However we'll be in better shape for the next event. Dave, I know you are working hard to support us; We appreciate all that you do, and I for one desire no malice, just comprehension. And now you know a little more about me :o) It's too late for Cascadia Cup, but I will let Ted Hausotter know he should request a full list from you directly, and we should consider something larger for the 1st Rounds as policy. Janis, we also need to contemplate how we want to deploy this on RegWizard; one method is to import the TAB list per event which will create a lot of redundancy. The other option is simply to refresh a world list periodically and define a method of selection bound in a similar manner (by state, by region, by event, by zipcode, other tbd). Let's think on that one; for now I suggest K.I.S.S. and import the TAB list for the 1st Rnd :o) Dave, thanks for the direct reply. Best regards, Alan ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Bruce Stott Date: Sun, 26 Feb 2006 16:33:27 -0500 Subject: Second call for judges The Ninth annual Eastern Connecticut Homebrew Competition will be held at the VFW on Main St. in Willimantic CT on Sat., March 11. To recognize his service to the BJCP over the last SIXTEEN YEARS, Russ was presented with a really magnificent engraved crystal goblet (which he promptly proceeded to fill and drain!). We have some photos of the event on the website that you might find worth looking at. Please see http://www.bjcp.org/russaward.html And please take the trouble to thank Russ when you see him and buy him all the beer he cares to drink.
