Ok, so on to the Pub crawl questions. When we say 'some pub crawls' are accepted for CEP credit we are giving an example. We have an outline for the structured BREWs, however we came up with the idea of having a Special BREWs area also. This way we can see what creative judges will come up with that is different from the structured BREWs. Anything on a monthly schedule would need to be structured as a BREW session which is quite straightforward. For a Special BREW session it needs to be just that.something special that doesn't happen very often. Because there are a million possibilities the ideas totally depend, as I said previously, on how creative people can be. =20 Inasmuch, there is no set 'structure' to a pub crawl. That being said, in NO way can it be your normal booze-up pub crawl. It would have to be more like a guided tasting. Something like going from pub to pub, where you would have a guide at each one going through the beers with you which would include written evaluations of some of the beers and be followed by a short quiz or test. =20 I think that judges are making this to difficult. Even though there is a lot of 'black and white' within the CEP there is also a lot of 'grey area'. So if you have an idea that you may want to try to work into some sort of CEP event, shoot us an email and we'll work with you on how to make it count for CEP. If you need help constructing a regular BREW session, email us and we'll help. As the program gains steam and there have been numerous BREWs and Special BREWs they will be posted on our website so other judges can get some ideas of what they can do. =20 Here is the link for the outline to the CEP. http://www.bjcp. org/cep/over.html =20 If people have questions, email us directly at cep`at`bjcp.org =20 Cheers =20 Kristen England Education Director Beer Judge Certification Program www.bjcp.org ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: paul sorenson Date: Fri, 27 Jan 2006 10:31:13 +1100 Subject: Sparkling Ale - "untainted" evaluations I ranted a while back on a particular Australian Style in relation to BJCP style guidelines. Since then I have had considerable input from a range of knowledgeable folk on this style, the result of which is: http://brewiki.org/AussieStyles/Sparkling_Ale As a cursory glance will show, this has a little way to go and mostly turned into a historical discussion. I am really acting more as a maintainer/editor rather than style expert. Anyway to the point of my post, I think it is possible to be so familiar with a style description and beer that one's sensory perception can be skewed. The style guide suggests things to us and so we taste them and our memory of the beer suggests things to us that perhaps are no longer there. Of course good judges are more objective than that but we are human after all. So if any people on this list who are not familiar with the beer find an opportunity to taste a Coopers Sparkling Ale, I would love to hear your evaluation. I am not sure of its availability in the USA, but maybe someone in their travels might come across it. cheers -- http://melbournebrewers.org/ http://brewsta.sourceforge.net/ http://brewiki.org/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ***** Important Subscriber Information ***** To post a message to JudgeNet, send it to judge`at`synchro.com.
