Pub crawls as CEP credits ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: MeadGuild`at`aol.com Date: Wed, 25 Jan 2006 03:16:29 EST Subject: Pub crawls as CEP credits I have one license and five professional certifications all of which require 40 hours per year of Continuing Professional Education. Fortunately there is a great deal of overlap amongst them and I usually had to do 50 to 60 hours per year to meet all requirements. And then there was the paperwork to support the hours claimed. Now that I am retired I do not have to do any. Based upon my CPE experiences, reading "some pub crawls" could qualify for CEP credit, I went into mild shock as in getting credit for a night out with the boy drinking beer. Then I thought about it and said "why not?" The monthly meeting of my LHBC is essentially a beer/mead/cider tasting and evaluation of fellow members submissions per a schedule that is posted annually. A winner is announced and points are tallied for a Brewer of the Year award. So how is that different from a pub crawl? First these meeting are in a room where you can discuss ratings with others and not compete with music, television, and the clanking of pool balls. Second the focus of the tasting/evaluations is limited to specified beer styles. I'm not interested in organizing a pub crawl, but I could see someone getting a private room in a bar that has numerous beers on tap and doing a tasting/evaluation on an arbitrary number of beers, e.g., 8 to 10. Perhaps having a mystery beer where participants identify the style as well as evaluating the beer. What I would really like to read is an outline of what qualifies as an acceptable pub crawl. I'd also like to read the documentation requirements for supporting events for CEP credit.
