Subject: Bourbon Barrels 


When I was looking for bourbon barrels Tom Griffin contacted me.  
He's making a run fresh from the distillery through Ohio, PA and to 
Wilmington, DE.  Maybe NY depending on demand.  Below is a note from 
Tom.  If anyone is interested let me know ASAP and I'll pass this 
along to Tom.

I will be parking some barrels at the Iron hill brewery warehouse in 
Wilmington DE. on the 23rd 0r 24th so If any homebewers you run into 
want any let me know asap. I don't know if you can do any

$80 each for homebrewers. sweet deal as the shipping alone is 
$100-120 it they order one from Jack D's ...and These aren't no jack 
daniels barrels . this run will have Elijah Craig 12 or older. yummm. 

I can also drop one  somewhere off the T'pikes on the way home. Pa 
mostly I think but maybe Ohio maybe NY I am still mapping the trip 
out and will be doing so on Monday as I pick them up.

Subject: Percentage of honey as a fermentable 


I've asked  this before and may have missed the answer.  I asked it on 
rec.crafts.meadmaking and got two answers.

Question: What percentage of the fermentables must be honey for the drink to 
be a Mead?

One answer is 50% with which I am comfortable.  Another answer was that as 
long as honey was the major fermentable.  My example of the second answer would 
be 40% from honey, 30% from some syrup, and 30% from brown sugar.  I don't 
like that one.

Given the honey is non-varietal, the honey provides nothing more than body, 
and the resultant Mead is classified as 26C, why not honey as 1/3 and other as 
2/3?

Is the answer to this question written somewhere?

Subject: Permanent news server hostname 


For those of you who read JudgeNet or WortNet via NNTP...

It appears our ISP no longer supports static hostnames (let alone 
static IP addresses).  In order to avoid having to update the 
hostname of our news server every few months, we now use a dynamic 
DNS service which automatically detects and updates the IP 
address.  Hopefully this will eliminate future changes in our news 
server hostname.  The new, stable hostname for our news server is: 
news.synchro.com, the URL is news://news.synchro.com.  Please update 
your newsreader accordingly, hopefully for the last time.  Thanks.
