I think this IS the most exciting job. I write for a living and one of the most challenging aspects is picking the correct word(s) to describe something, or illuminate a feeling. Metaphors and similes are fine, but we actually have perfectly descriptive nouns for many concepts that make the communication process more accurate. We have all watched as English is degraded in verbing of nouns, etcetera, so what could be better than a very good vocabulary for brewers? Along with learning what the words mean, what they describe, denote, illustrate comes the knowledge and understanding. I still struggle with equating many of the words I know and understand intellectually with their corresponding sensory component. So I, for one, think having a common language is absolutely imperative. Heck, I'll even help out. I think I'll get more out of it than the average student and may even become a better, feedback oriented judge.
