Warning: this is more about computers than beer. Database development isn't the current problem. Purchasing software licenses and transitioning responsibilities among volunteers is the issue. The necessary software has been ordered to allow us to divide up the data entry among multiple people, which will alleviate the problem with just having one person do the work. The database allows for some distributed data entry, but everything still needs to be centrally uploaded and synchronized before posting results on the web. Once the software is in hand, we intend to divide up the data entry and start working on the backlog. There is a completed online competition organizer reporting system that allows an organizer to report points using a web interface. I haven't rolled that out yet pending on the transition of data entry duties. There is still some manual work involved, so I didn't want to add new processes while we were in the middle of a personnel change. It's just that the turnover has been slower in coming than I anticipated... The central database has an interface specification for accepting data entry from competition reporting systems (this is the XML file Alan Hord mentioned). I've provided those specs to people who are interested in interfacing with our system. I can work with others who want to add those features to other programs as well. But I didn't want to announce this until we were ready to accept those reports. I am also working with some volunteers on defining future IT requirements and solutions for the BJCP. I do pay attention to issues people raise in this forum. Once the plan is completed and approved by the BJCP board, I will make sure it is available for review. As we identify and prioritize future projects, we may need additional programming volunteers. Watch this space for future announcements. Off topic one more time then I'll stop. I put my beer song up on a site that rates songs by how many people go up and listen to it. So since the song is about homebrew I thought maybe it might not be too much off topic. go to http://www.soundclick.com/rockcats Thanks Steve Subject: Digest for the period 2/25/2004 - 2/26/2004 Date: Thu, 26 Feb 2004 01:01:52 -0500 Table of contents ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. re: posting points (Gordon Strong) 2.
