Subject: Digest for the period 1/5/2003 - 1/6/2003 Date: Mon, 06 Jan 2003 01:02:34 -0500 Table of contents ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Style Guidelines (Lyle C Brown) 2. double shot WAS (RE: form nazis) (Bob Paolino) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Lyle C Brown Date: Sun, 5 Jan 2003 09:42:38 -0500 Subject: Style Guidelines First off, I stand corrected. In posting regarding BJCP vs AHA style guidelines, I mistook the original posting to refer to a new set of AHA style guidelines. I have looked at the website, and see that the AHA NHC "official" style guidelines are in fact the BJCP guidelines. The posting was referring to the GABF and WBC style guidelines. These are commercial competitions, and almost "require" different guidelines. Mike Hall clarified this well, and also brought up the reason for my original rant. My concern was more fragmentation of the Homebrew Judging community. The original split between AHA and BJCP caused much discontent. Some former strong AHA members have still not come back. I am not one of them. I have been a member nonstop since 1985, and still am. I was concerned that AHA may have been going down that same path again. AHA should most definitely have a voice in the BJCP, and since MANY judges are members, they do. Given many of the discussions on this forum of late, the style guidelines do seem to be in need of an update, which is apparently about to start. If AHA members who are also BJCP members would like to bring AHA influence to the process and eventually the updated guidelines, I encourage them to volunteer, as I have done. Bottom line here, I think a common set of guidelines, for at least most sanctioned competitions is important, and we should all work towards further unity in the judging community. In addition to providing better products for the entrants (our customers), this unity would also help us be better positioned for commercial judging. Lyle C.
