When you're not drawing enough judges you have a serious problem and "firing" the judge is rarely an option. I did not intend it to be, unless the quality was consistently so low that it reflected poorly on the competition. That can happen however, and when the status quo is low it does make good judges reluctant to attend. There remains the issue of how to get feedback to judges who don't actively seek it (perhaps for good reason)? I suggested peer pressure at the table and post-competition feedback from the entrant that puts the organizer into the uncomfortable position of intermediary. Are there any more ideas that are practicable? Is feedback to judges something we should ignore unless the ranks of judges get larger? -- Randy --Message_Part_SYNC668945B267-- --Next_Part_SYNC668945B267-- Subject: Digest for the period 4/15/02 - 4/16/02 Date: Tue, 16 Apr 2002 01:00:56 -0400 Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="Next_Part_SYNC668945B267" --Next_Part_SYNC668945B267 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Table of contents ---------------------------------------------------------------------- how to provide feedback (Randy Paul) --Next_Part_SYNC668945B267 Content-Type: multipart/digest; boundary="Message_Part_SYNC668945B267" --Message_Part_SYNC668945B267 Content-Type: message/rfc822 Return-Path: Received: from shell.cais.net ([205.252.14.8]) by synchro.com with SMTP (Mailtraq/1.1.6.1176) id SYNC667545AE5E for judge`at`synchro.com; Mon, 15 Apr 2002 11:00:23 -0400 Received: from localhost (randy`at`localhost) by shell.cais.net (8.11.0/8.11.0) with ESMTP id g3FExgl09565 for ; Mon, 15 Apr 2002 10:59:42 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from randy`at`computer.org) X-Authentication-Warning: shell.cais.net: randy owned process doing -bs Date: Mon, 15 Apr 2002 10:59:42 -0400 (EDT) From: Randy Paul Reply-To: "JudgeNet - the beer judge digest" Errors-To: judge-owner`at`synchro.com Sender: judge`at`synchro.com X-Sender: randy`at`shell.cais.net To: JudgeNet - the beer judge digest Subject: how to provide feedback In-Reply-To: Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII X-Hops: 3 X-POST-MessageClass: 10; Mailing List Message (re:Bill Wible note on poor comments/firing judges) Bill, You make valid points.
