The Kostritzer is malty, has a little bit of sweetness to it, and a low hop aroma (~ 28 BU's). When I talked to their Sales Rep., he told me that in the earlier (Brewing)days, they used approximately 3% of slightly roasted Malt in the formula, which (of course) changed over the years. I might add that I find that the DEHUSKED version lacks the bitter tannin flavor of other roasted malts. I once blew away a UK trained brewer by using it in a dark mild ale. He liked the roast malt character without the bitterness he associates with it.
