This AHA/BJCP sanctioned and registered Competition will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2001 in Columbia, South Carolina. Entries from judges are invited and encouraged. Palmetto State Brewers, Inc., Columbia's homebrew club, sponsors this Competition. More information about the Competition is available through a link on the club's website which is www. psbrewer.org. This Competition will be unique for one of medium size. We plan to judge every style category (1-26) and none of the categories will be combined with others even if there is only one entry. Sub-categories (a.b....) may, of course, be combined within the category as usual. Minimum scores will be needed (for example 1st - 35 pts., 2nd - 30 pts., 3rd -25 pts.) for prizes and awards and a 1st place will be required to advance to the BOS round. Some categories may not have a 1st place if the beer does not measure up. The is more work for the organizers but much fairer to brewers who brew excellent examples of uncommon beers and expecially fairer to judges. There are very few BJCP judges in South Carolina so we need any available judge to help us and more importantly to help the hobby. Overnight accommodations with club members will be available and also discounted rooms are available at fine hotels that are within walking distance of the Competition site. This area of Columbia is filled with good restaurants, shops, bars and an outstanding brewpub. Please contact me for more information or to register.
