Your involvement in HWBTA competitions predates mine, so I'm sure you're
right about that, certainly for that time period.  My awareness that they
even had their own competition goes back only to the AHA-BJCP split, and I
recall them providing entries to their national competition to be awarded
to winners of local/regional competitions--much like the AHA gave entries
to the NHC except that I (mis??)understood that those awards were the only
way to get in (unlike the AHA-NHC free entries, which were simply a way to
save the $9?

Perhaps the Chicago-area folks who helped run that last HWBTA National at
Millrose know what the entry requirements were and could hop in.

I recall that local/regional _competitions_ had to be sponsored by a
