Maybe the rules have changed since I've last read them, but I do remember the first time I entered the NHC that they did allow the brewer to brew a different batch of beer for the final round, but the recipe must be the same. Now saying that, I'm not sure why you would want to change a recipe if it advanced to the finals, unless you were truly unhappy with the way the beer came out. Obviously, there are occasions when its impossible to brew a different batch of beer for the second round (barleywines, old ales, meads...) and there are times when you would want to as you specified (wheats, pales). This is the BJCP registered homebrewer's competition for the 12th annual Small Brewers Festival, held in Mountain View, Calfornia every year since 1988. We need experienced beer judges to judge this event. Although experienced beer judges will have priority, novice judges are welcome and will be teamed with experienced judges. Stewards are also needed. If you are interested in becoming a beer judge, stewarding is a great to start. Judging will take place at the Tied House Cafe & Brewery, at 954 Villa Street, Mountain View, CA on Saturday, August 5, 2000. Judges and stewards are asked to arrive by 10 AM on Saturday. Donuts, bagels and coffee will be served before the session. Lunch will be provided by the Tied House Cafe & Brewery immediately after the judging to all participants. All participants receive a Festival Tasting kit, which includes a festival mug and seven tasting tokens, good for tasting your choice of the 150 unique beers available from the 40+ West Coast microbreweries tent, the following weekend (August 12-13), at the Small Brewers Festival (see smallbrewersfest.com for more information). To judge or stewards, please call me, John S. Watson at home (408)732-6193 or work (650)604-1616 or you can email me at jswatson at visto.com. Finally we figured out that they were just tired and rather dulled. No obvious signs of oxidation for the most part, just not beers that we would have expected to have made it to the finals. Do the rules actually require the same beer be entered or may the brewer re-brew as is encouraged in MCAB? X-Hops: 3 X-POST-MessageClass: 10; Mailing List Message Dear Fellow Beer Judges, On Saturday, August 5th, the Worts of Wisdom Homebrewers Club is organizing this year's judging of Small Brewers Festival of California Amateur Brewers Competition. When registering, please include your: Name, Address, phone, e-mail BJCP level (if any) and BJCP ID number Style(s) of beer you prefer to judge Style(s) of beer you've entered in this competition.
