With 1999 behind us now, I'd like to take the opportunity to pass along some BJCP news (what little there really is) to the judges who read JudgeNet and to ask for your input for 2000. First of all, the new Style Guide was released in 1999 and is on the BJCP web site. For those of you who don't belong to the AHA, you should be aware that the latest issue of Zymurgy announced the AHA's National Homebrew Competition and with it is using the same style guide that the BJCP recently adopted. Competitions should be easier on everyone with the same style guides in 2000. But for the organizers, remember that any competition is free to combine categories/sub-categories into whatever ribbon categories may best fit that competition. While my tenure as the MidAtlantic Representative just started in June, I have found that there is active discussions among the Board members. All-in-all, a very dedicated groups of homebrewing leaders. What I would like to know from the judges in my area, and perhaps the representatives from other areas would like to know as well, is "what issues or concerns do you feel the BJCP should take up on your behalf?" Are you completely satisfied with what we are, I am, more specifically, doing for you? Is there anything in the way of communications we/I can improve upon? Russ Wigglesworth was kind enough to send me an electronic list of judges in this region so that I could do a mailing, but given cost and proximity to the annual mailing, I'll defer for the time being to using this forum, although not an official BJCP communications medium, to ask for your input. Like always you can contact me (us) directly via the email addresses listed on the BJCP web site. Or you can post your responses here as well. Thanks and I hope to see many of you at competitions this year.
