We used it last year in October for our 3rd annual Music City Brew-Off in Nashville and found it to be a very useful tool. Having been involved with the two previous Music City Brew-Offs as Head Steward and Competition Coordinator, we found that it worked well for the growth in the number of entries we were handling (181 this past year). One downside to anyone considering using it: The print-out parts of the program only work with a laser printer. Not sure why, but that's the way Barry has written all of the software. I'm sure he'd be willing to explain it if/when you contact him. One especially good thing about it is that part of the annual fee to use it goes into keeping an up to date database of entries and brewers who have entered from one year to the next, as well as an updated version of the style guidelines and categories from one year to the next. I see one real potential benefit of the database being if more than one competition in any given area of the country all decide to use it, then they can keep a pooled database of entries and brewers, as well as judges, which would make mailing out competition packets, call for judges, etc. that much more efficient. On another note, has anyone had a chance to look at some of the letters to the editor in the latest edition of Brewing Techniques? Some interesting "discussion" about beers being judged according to predesignated style guidelines...I don't have it with me to quote verbatim, but I'm just curious if any of the judging collective are interested in starting a thread on that one?
