A possibly apocryphal story, which I heard at third hand: At a recent competition, the BOS panel consisted of three very experienced judges, of the "national luminary" sort. The decision came down to two excellent beers. One of the three said "well, I don't really know about category A, but this beer is a really excellent example of category B." The other two judges thought that the "Category A" beer was more deserving, but were unable to convince the third judge of this. So the panel went with the "category B" beer. Another story, in which I participated: A BOS panel (with 5 judges, as I recall) came down to two choices. Again, both were excellent. One was big and bombastic, the other was delicate and subtle. Again, the "highest ranked" judge just could not see the virtues of the "delicate" choice, and eventually browbeat the rest of the panel into accepting his choice. It really doesn't matter how many judges there are, if one of them has a dominating personality and is stubborn enough. I should reemphasize that in both cases, the eventual winner was certainly deserving of the honor. =Spencer --Next_Part_SYNC92096597D--
