I agree with OB that certain topics get beaten to death and I tire of reading about them as well. There has been a lengthy thread (which I risk extending) about what's on the BJCP web site, who has or hasn't kept it up to date and who has or hasn't looked at it recently enough to make various charges, and on and on. To the extent that there's some substance in the middle of all the flame-baiting and namecalling, I encourage the discussion. The topic to which I added my thirty-three cents' worth was (despite an editing error) about web page access and/or email delivery as a supplemental means of delivering judge records. The point that I thought _should_ have been obvious is that the "everyone doesn't have email" argument was irrelevant to a discussion of whether to provide web access to judge records. (It would be relevant ONLY if email delivery was proposed as a complete REPLACEMENT for postal delivery.) Someone who is looking at the web page (at home, at work, or in a public library) will also have access to _some_ kind of email (paid or free) anyway, and someone who doesn't have and/or doesn't want to use a computer isn't going to be looking at the web page. Simple, right? (They'll get the information in the mail like the rest of us.) [Personally, I don't much care whether I can retrieve my judging record on line or by postal delivery. An annual mailing is fine with me. My experience points far outstrip the rank cap on my six-years-old exam score, and it doesn't matter much to me whether I have the title recognised or national (or even master). I judge because I enjoy it, because I want to help out, and because I want to promote good beer evaluation and homebrewing in general. If there are people who feel a pressing need to have an up-to-the-minute record of their judging activity, fine, email it to them or let them ask for a sooner-than-annual update by postal mail.] Now go have a beer, Bob Paolino rpaolino at earth.execpc.com Madison I can taste my beer. Can you? Bland Beer is the Worst Sort of Tyranny! Don't drink bland industrial swill; it only encourages them to make more. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Wed, 17 Feb 1999 07:43:05 -0600 (CST) From: Robert Paolino To: JudgeNet - the beer judge digest Subject: points / email addresses Scott points out the concern that not all judges use e-mail. But if we go back to the original idea proposed, that shouldn't remember. The issue, ---the word "remember" should be "matter"--- my clumsy fingers left the word "remember" that ended up in the next sentence when I rewrote the sentence above....
