I have entered most of the competitions I have organized, and there was only one instance where it proved to be awkward. The best of show panel could not decide between two beers and I was called in to arbitrate. One of the beers happened to be mine, but I declined with the excuse that I knew too much about the beers. Most organizers are ethical enough not to stack the odds in favor of their beers, but there has been at least one other case where the organizer skipped town with the results and competition revenue. His beers probably did pretty well, but we'll never know. George Fix would probably vote against it, since he generally not even judge in competitions in which he has entered. The reason for this is that he could indirectly affect the results of the BOS round through the beers he sends forward. If his beers then did well in BOS, the brewers of the beers he did not send forward would have ammunition to tarnish a reputation we know is spotless. Just in case he has forgotten, here are some useful directions that I copied from the server instructions, since I can't e-mail him directly with the address he's provided (cwhudak-at-home-dot-com) You can leave this list at any time by sending a message to judge-request at synchro.com with the line uns**scribe judge in the subject or message body. where ** are the letters "u" and "b". I tried posting this message a few minutes ago and was myself deleted from the list! Whoops! One other suggestion of my own: If people want to change the content, let's all post some questions or topics to put the train on a different track. I like the question about training newbies. I'll try to respond here soon with some thoughts, because our club definitely has been going through some similar "growing pains." My main interest was the competition schedule, and as I have said earlier, the experience I referred to was before he took that over. It HAS improved greatly since then. Thanks Scott, and keep up the GOOD work. I had earlier written: "This was a fact, it was my experience. In calling my experience "an outright lie" Scott was wrong. In resorting to name calling, I believe Scott owes me an apology." Scott continued: "Perhaps it was not a lie, but the reason you "never found the exam ... schedule to be ... complete" is that you did not bother looking." Apology accepted :--) Lyle C.
