Subject: 15th Annual Kansas City Bier Meisters RHC

Call for judges!

The Kansas City Bier Meisters will be holding their 15th Annual Regional 
Homebrew Competition on Feb. 20th and 21st with the Best of Show Round on 
the 21st.  This is a AHA sanctioned event. This competition is a 
qualifing round for the Master Championship of Amateur Brewers.

The information for the competition is available at

Questions about the competition can be directed to Steve Ford - 
sparepart at sound.net.

This year we a featuring a breakfast with Fred Eckhardt and a Pub Crawl 
with our local brewers. After the Pub Crawl our club chef, Danial Turner 
C.W.C., will be serving our Sirloin Stampeed Dinner.

For judges and stewards only Fred is presenting a special seminar on 
Friday night.  The breakfast with Fred is also no charge for judges and 
stewards.

Let's not forget that many clubs are run by one or two very eager and
very busy members and that they are not only the competition organiser,
but also the president, webmaster, newsletter editor and write most of the
articles for the newsletter.  All this on top of a day job and most likely
a family and I can easily see eight or twelve weeks to get all the scoresheets
back.  Some take longer and I can see that as a little unreasonable.

We keep forgetting that for most people, homebrewing is not our day job.

As for mailing the scoresheets/prizes versus picking them up, it depends on
the entry fee, no?  I mean... if the entry fee was only $3 and the organiser
has to UPS 50# of grain to George Fix in Texas and 33# of extract to some
other entrant in Alaska and then maybe a pound of hops to each category
winner... yikes!  I found out how expensive it can be to send out prizes
the hard way.  I collected $600 in prizes for the 1994 BOSS competition
and then the competition lost $50 *despite* the fact that I gave out half
of the prizes to club members in person AND a member of the Derby, KS
club was good enough to accept and distribute all the scoresheets and prizes
for their fellow members.

Subject: 1998 Boston Homebrew Competition

I am pleased to announce the Fourth Annual BOSTON HOMEBREW COMPETITION
to be held on February 21, 1998 in Somerville Mass.  This competition is
sponsorerd by and run by the Boston Wort Processors.  Entry deadline has
been set as the 14th, and must be received by that date.  This competition
will also be one of the first Qualifying Events for the Masters Championship 
of Amateur Brewing (MCAB) that many of y'all may have read about. 

All of the information anyone needs to enter the competition or to judge in 
the competition can be found at http://www.wort.org, including entry forms, 
bottle labels, judge registration forms, etc.  I encourage all of y'all who 
are interested in this competition to obtain your information through this 
channel.  For those of y'all who don't have web access, e-mail myself (Ken 
Jucks, jucks at cfa.harvard.edu) with your e-mail and snail addresses and I 
will get you the required information ASAP.
