The point being is this: I know what I call 35 ibus may differ using some other formulae. Hay wait! We forgot to factor in the relative humidity and air pressure and feet above sea level..now let's really get anal.. lets go out and get a perkin elmer g.c. and run samples on every batch of hops we buy at the home brew store. While an experienced brewer will know what to expect from his own system, it is not reasonable to expect 5 brewers using 5 different systems, and yes, they all have 5%alpha goldings(2 of the 5 had been on the shelf at the home brew shop for 6 months, 1 was broken out of a brick last week and 2 were in the foil packages. Those 5 beers are all gonna be different because short of having the fore mentioned gas chromatograph, there is no way to guarantee the alpha acid count of the unstable hydrocarbons that we call "hoppiness".. Lets just let it go that when a brew says 35 ibu's , assume that is what the brewer means and let it go at that.. I think that the phrase " so many ozs of 12.5% Paisly hops for so many minutes for X ibus is crap!! Reminds me of my youngerdays, I never inhaled of course. Back than we would drool over Michoucan, and turn up our noses at some triploid weed grown in someone's backyard. I guess I made my point.. This is supposed to be Fun for cryin out loud!
