My limited experience, based on brewing, talking about, sharing, and entering CAPs is similar to Jeff's and suggests that most homebrewers don't know much (if anything) about the style. Let's think about why this is. As much as I've enjoyed Jeff's writing on CAP (and the earlier work of Fix et al), I think it's a safe bet that the majority of homebrewers do not read HBD, Zymurgy, Brewing Techniques, or the Stanislaus Hoppy Cappers Brewsletter (circ. 40). Those that do conceivably might be tempted to pass over an article about American Pilsener. My limited judging experience also suggests that at least some judges do not read the AHA style guidelines religiously before starting to judge, especially if they think they are familiar with the style. If this is true for CAP, then it's not too much of a stretch to think that some judges are approaching the style with MicBudMiloors in mind. What to do about it? Short of writing a BP Style Series book on CAP (which I'd buy at full price despite Charlie getting a cut BTW), how about a "new" style article for the BJCP newsletter? Kind of a rehash of your original treatise, a brief history of getting the style recognized, and significant attributes (i.e. body, flavor, hop bitterness, and corn flavor). It seems like the best way of targeting the specific audience we're interested in reaching, plus we know that the newsletter is hurting for material.
