CUSTODIANS on duty: Pat Babcock and Karl Lutzen (custodian at hbd.org) "Not a publication of the BJCP" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 22 Jul 1998 09:16:27 EDT From: RussWig at aol.com Subject: Echo of Thanks; Portland I would also like to say "Thank You" to Karl & Pat for their efforts here. I am glad that they and Chuck have worked this out and I look forward to their continuing participation in our on-line talks. As for Portland, it is hot! We judged from 9:00 AM to about 3:00 PM yesterday in a push to have only one sitting needed today. Things went well and the judges deserve a pat on the back for their efforts. BJ's hosted a reception last evening where many of us were re-united with old friends and made some new ones. There was the normal buzz of AHA/BJCP homebrew politics in the air as well. Looks like this will be a fun conference. More later. Live from Portland... I think of it as an unofficial voice that that is freewheeling, sometimes anal, and frankly introspective. We need more people who are interested in judging and willing to discuss in a non-official setting what is right and what is wrong with our organisation. Well, I've ssaid my 2 cents worth. I don't see the trolls exactly protesting shutting down the BJD -Pat, Karl, and the rest of you guys have done good. gonna miss the BJD. Bruce Hammell ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Jul 1998 06:59:12 -0500 From: "Lutzen, Karl F." Subject: So long BJD. For now.... This is the final message for the Beer Judge Digest. Well, for this time anyway. From this point on, it will be a backup for JudgeNet. Chuck Cox has agreed that the BJD should remain in the wings on standby mode in case JudgeNet ever goes down for an extended time. Also, the BJD will be backing up the JudgeNet subscription list. Just in case! While we got off to a rather odd start, things settled down and every- one maintained an execellent exchange of information. This we appreciate. So, until we meet in the pub or at some beer event, it is with mixed feelings I pull the plug on the BJD. It took some time to get the software to do what I wanted with the moderation of posts from unsubscribed addresses only, and a few other features, but I enjoy doing that stuff any way. Maybe someday BJD will have a life of its own again, but until then, go have/brew/judge some great beers... (I know that I said the last digest would come out on Thursday, but I got busy) ===================================================================== Karl F.
