I was given this information by Eric Toft of the Stein brewery who serves as a regional distributor for this product in the Chemsee region just southeast of Munich. Jay - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hopfen und Malz, Gott erhalt's This is a key free document, no keyboards were harmed in its creation. (The DragonDictate speech recognition system, the CIC handwriting recognizer, or some combination was used.) ------------------------------ From: "Houseman, David L" Date: Wed, 4 Jun 1997 16:41:32 -0400 Subject: BJCP PR Jay's observation about a lack of public awareness of the BJCP and the need for PR is very much an issue if the BJCP wants to go much beyond a simple certification capability. For example, the style committee is working on the BJCP style guide. Unless some PR is done for the BJCP, I'd contend that it's general usefulness in competitions is worthless because most competitions use the AHA style guide. I'm in favor of one definition for a beer style, not two, but that's a different story. If the BJCP wants its style guide to be recognized widely and the organization to be more widely respected, some action is necessary. Perhaps having it become the North America analogue to CAMRA, more proactive in the recognition of good, and bad, brewpub/micro beers would help. I hate to go into a new (for me anyway) brew pub and order what they call Weizen and get an American Wheat beer - substitute the styles of your experience, there's a lot of leeway in style naming. There's also the truly great local beers that need to be recognized as well. We may have reached success when newspapers contact the BJCP for comments on a local watering hole. One approach we could take is to provide some pro-forma articles that budding BJCP beer critics could use and modify to suit the occasion in writing about beers in public forums. Can we certify "qualified" BJCP members to write articles representing the BJCP?
