I dont think Alts I would agree with the lack of astringency, and I just had one last week. The Alt at Zum Uerige was the bitterest of the 3 Alts I had in Dusseldorf. It had a long lingering bitter - very clean and not astringent - aftertaste. The other Alts I had, Shumacher and Scholesser, had a much stronger malt flavor with a grainy (like chewing on raw malt) character. > Date: Fri, 2 May 1997 18:17:32 -0400 Subject: Judging Opportunities in Southern Ontario This is a call for BJCP judges. Had I known that was the total, I would've brought two more of my own beers to the event! Anway, does this mean I only get half a point for judging? According to a statement by Russ Wigglesworth of the BJCP coordinator-type on Feb. 26, 1997: "As far as the point schedule is concerned, the structure was designed to encourage judges to participate in events requiring multiple days/sessions but without in flating the points too much. As it stands now a new schedule went into effect on 1/1/97 whereby a judge gets 0.5 points per session with a minimum of 1 point per event and a maximum of 1 point per calendar day and a variable maximum for the ev ent depending on its size. Less liberal than the previous schedule but more equit able overall as the additional session points are now available to smaller compet itions. Under the old schedule the additional points were only available if a com p had >500 entries." This does say you get an minimum of 1 point per event, but it does seem to be a little ambiguous. Does anyone out there have any more information?
