Spencer astutely points out an omission. There should be an "other" category for melomel, which I have added, though it may not immediately show up on the web page. Spencer, if you don't like the expanded mead guidelines, don't use them! I'd like to point out that the mead guidelines included in the 1997 BJCP Style Guidelines have far fewer subcatagories. I feel that while these expanded guidelines may not be useful for most competitions, they could be helpful to mead judges; this is especially true for mead novices who expect strong flavor and color contributions from all fruits, for example. > On a more serious note, I am extremely disappointed that the "Show" > category is not included. While this may or may not be the case, I believe the committee was trying to offer all of the subtle sub-styles known. It seems odd, though, that criticism is made because "too much" information is provided. If the purpose of the style guidelines is to educate, then I am educated by the Mead style guidelines. The BJCP style guidelines is a living document and as such is subject to change on an annual basis. Nothing is etched in stone. If Spencer believes that improvements are needed, then he, or anyone, should offer his/their services to Tom Fitzpatrick, the BJCP Competition Director, who is seeking volunteers to serve on a style guidelines sub-committee. Or, if committee stuff isn't your thing but you still would like imput, why not write down your suggested improvements and forward them to the BJCP Competition Committee. They would be forwarded to the Style-Guidelines Sub-committee and stirred into the mix.
