(no offense meant there Bob> Kieran). OK, I am an openminded person. Would you be willing to share the *exact* details of how you handle competition day without a computer? If it is indeed better, I can change. But for the life of me, I don't see how getting a pull list for BOS can be done quickly without a computer. Just as a point of reference, at the AFCHBC last weekend, the last score sheet was entered in the computer about 30 seconds after being delivered by the steward and a pull list for the BOS round was printed less than two minutes later. If the size of the competition matters, we had 268 entries and 40 judges comprising 20 panels. I can see how if you have 60 panels that the data entry could become the bottleneck, but wouldn't anything you do with the score sheets manually become a bottleneck also? Please explain how it does not. thanks, dion Organizer America's Finest City Homebrew Competition March 8, 1997 Quality Ale and Fermentation Fraternity, Sponsor http://www.vigra.com/~hollen/AFCHBC.html - --- Dion Hollenbeck (619)597-7080x164 Email: hollen at vigra.com http://www.vigra.com/~hollen Sr. Software Engineer - Vigra Div. of Visicom Labs San Diego, California ------------------------------ From: hollen at vigra.com Date: Sun, 16 Mar 97 11:00:40 PST Subject: Too many beers per panel Well, at the AFCHBC we just finished, we had 40 judges and 267 beers. This works out to 13 beers per judge with two judge panels. Of course, we could not divvy it up exactly that way, so we had some judges with up to 16 beers to taste. They said it was too much and I agree, but there was not much we could do about it. With the way we went about getting judges (two postcards a month apart followed by a phone call, for a total of more than three months notice) I seriously doubt that we will ever be able to attract many more than the 40 we did this year. We have no conflicts with other regional competitions nor beer events of any kind. So how do people handle this? I would hate to have to go to a 2 day event, as we would never get as many judges as we did if they had to spend the entire weekend. Then again, I don't think I could get the competition staff for two days either. Any ideas to share? thanks, dion QUAFF President Organizer America's Finest City Homebrew Competition March 8, 1997 Quality Ale and Fermentation Fraternity, Sponsor http://www.vigra.com/~hollen/AFCHBC.html - --- Dion Hollenbeck (619)597-7080x164 Email: hollen at vigra.com http://www.vigra.com/~hollen Sr. Software Engineer - Vigra Div. of Visicom Labs San Diego, California ------------------------------ End of judge-digest V1 #1407 **************************** Send subscription cancellations & changes to judge-request at synchro.com.
