What if we only recognized the brewer and not the brewry. What if there were a competition where the person who designed and brewed the beer got the ribbon - at a commercial level? Also we might think about having two different style guides one pro and one amateur where one is a subset of the other (which is a subset of which would be the question). Steve Casselman ------------------------------ From: kathy Date: Tue, 21 Jan 1997 07:59:15 -0500 Subject: gold and silver The Al K. suggestion of a single Gold and multiple silver and bronzes is something I really like. There is little social purpose to a ranking of the 3 top beers given the varabilities in product distribution and the judging itself. jim booth, lansing, mi ------------------------------ From: GSMITHBEER at aol.com Date: Tue, 21 Jan 1997 11:02:32 -0500 Subject: Re: Alt beer at GABF In the interest of accuracy (response to Al K's observation about Sam Adams winning a gold for Boston Ale in the Alt beer category.) The 1996 GABF medal winners in Alt were German Style Brown Ale/Dusseldorf Altbier: Silver - Cliffhanger Alt - Coppertank Brewing, Austin, TX Bronze - Louisville Alt - Bluegrass Brewing Co., Louisville, KY No gold was awarded. As for earlier winners, the previous three were McNiell's Brewing Butterfield Brewing Co New England Brewing Co. ------------------------------ End of judge-digest V1 #1371 **************************** Send subscription cancellations & changes to judge-request at synchro.com.
