Isn't that what the WBC was supposed to do? ROTFL! Whew! Boy, I haven't had such a good laugh in awhile. Thanks, George. No one else I know has the imagination to compare such a poorly run exercise to benefit only one company and no entrants with a real competition! WOTW is in Lahaska, near New Hope, PA on Rt. 202, and is only an hour or so from New York City, a half hour from Philadelphia, and maybe 2 1/2 hours from the Baltimore area. There is a very nice shopping area adjacent for significant others who, for some reason, don't want to spend all day in a brew pub. Only this competition would be open to only >professional brewers (who we normally exclude). ... I like this idea as well, and Martin brought up some good points yesterday. It has been suggested in the past that North America needs a CAMRA-type organization to independently comment on micros and brewpubs. As Martin said, there are plenty of breweries putting out mediocre beers (or worse) and giving them names which mislead (intentionally or not) the consumer. This kind of competition would be one way to assess the quality of the beer a brewer is producing. The beers wouldn't need to be "in style", as creativity is a good thing. But lactic beer, as I've had at one local brewpub, is a bad thing. while in practice, keeping this kind of thing up to date may prove to be impossible (as the author of "On Tap" apparently found out), it would be nice to know that (for example), there are xx brewpubs in Boston, but two received four stars from yy organization. Something to ponder... - Bryan grosbl at ctrvax.vanderbilt.edu Nashville, TN ------------------------------ From: MaltyDog at aol.com Date: Tue, 7 Jan 1997 16:53:45 -0500 Subject: Belgian Blockbuster I never heard the results of the Belgian Blockbuster Club-only contest of last month. Johnston" Date: Wed, 8 Jan 1997 07:25:56 -0500 Subject: 1997 Moon Madness Competition The 1997 Moon Madness Competition is seeking BJCP judges and stewards for the Sixth Annual Moon Madness Homebrew Competition, to be held March 8, 1997, at The Market House Pub, Fourth and Cherry Streets, Reading, PA. Apprentice and Novice judges are welcome and will be teamed with more experienced judges. The pub and the Pretzel City Brewing Company are separate operations both occupying a turn-of-the-century Market House attached to Widow Finney's Restaurant -- the oldest standing building in Reading, PA. The original wood and stone structure has been left exposed on the inside, and the pub has been decorated with memorabilia of Reading's brewing history. The brewery boasts a customized JV Northwest system and about six different beers currently available on draft or in bottles. It's only been open since July, 1996, and already plans on quadrupling its capacity within the year. Judges and Stewards are requested to fill out a Judge Registration Form and return it by February 26, 1997, to: Mark Johnston RD2 Box 2519-1 Route 222 Fleetwood, PA 19522 (610)-777-6170 msjohnst at talon.net Judges and Stewards for this competition will receive a commemorative T-shirt, as well as lunch, courtesy of Brew Ha Ha and The Market House Pub. Pretzel City Brewing Company will also provide some beer for the lunch, and Head Brewer Scott Baver will provide a tour of the brewery during the lunch break. Judges and Stewards are requested to arrive by 9:15 AM. Judging will begin at 10:00. Real glasses will be used this year as in previous Moon Madness competitions. - -- ------------------------------ End of judge-digest V1 #1365 **************************** Send subscription cancellations & changes to judge-request at synchro.com.
