And specifically I am referring to the practice of assigning an arbitrary numeric score to the cover sheets of the top place entries in a category in order to have them rank in the proper order. This score does not necessarily reflect an average of the scores on the accompanying scoresheets. Frequently it will be inflated but it could also be a degraded score from the "average" in order to break a tie. Such a score can be confusing to the entrant. I prefer to adjust the actual scoresheet scores to keep the entries in the proper order regarding awards. RW... The easy way around this is to have the stewards review the score sheets before they are handed in to the organizer table.. Besides checking for completeness, have the stewards double check the addition on each score sheet. If there are bad judges, you will usually be told by the brewers. Then it is a simple matter of not inviting them back next time.
