Actually, two ongoing committees will be having personnel changes starting June 1 or there about. The Committees are Exam and Competition. There is only two rules I follow when it comes to the committees, one rule is that they are regionaly diversified, so that a larger cross section of the country can be heard, and two, that they have an odd number of people on them. So go for it. Leave me your name and the committee you'd like to be on. Currently, each of these committees will have one BoD member and the Comp or Exam Director, that'll leave at least 5 positions open. Nathan states: > So maybe the by-laws aren't letter perfect, I say if you wanna gripe about >the bylaws, first brew a beer that scores a '50'. Then gripe all you want. Gee, that means that I can gripe all I want. But then again, it was out of style according to one person here. But then again, he didn't brew it, he didn't take the gravity readings, he doesn't know the utilization I get for hop extraction, and he just doesn't know...... Dennis Davison ddavison at execpc.com BJCC Midwest Region Chairperson of the BJCP ------------------------------ From: Robert Paolino Date: Fri, 3 May 1996 00:37:35 -0500 (CDT) Subject: last call for entries (and judges) BIG AND HUGE reminder. If you'd like to those high gravity beers of yours, there's still time. Athough the rules list the 4th as the deadline for shipped entries, we're not going to be unpacking entries until Tuesday evening, so if you can get it shipped to beautiful Madison by Tuesday afternoon, who's gonna know you didn't get it here by Saturday ;-). We set entry deadlines to facilitate the registration process (and to make sure your beer has time to settle). If we're not going to do anything with them until Tuesday, why should we overzealously enforce a printed entry deadline. (Now, if they get there _after_ Tuesday, then we get a little annoyed. If you can get 'em to UPS on Friday, they should be here in time. Go for it! If you can judge, let me know. The more judges, the more fun.... I liked the older, simpler heading. More significantly, I preferred having the authors listed along with the subjects in the TOC. Chuck, can we at least get the author information back? I rarely get to read it right away, but will at least glance at the contents, and it helps to know what to expect, no? Now go have a beer, Bob Paolino Madison rpaolino at earth.execpc.com You may now go back to your regularly-scheduled beer ------------------------------ From: "Andrew R Thomas" Date: 03 May 1996 09:53:09 GMT Subject: beer police si. gestapo no - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- THIS MAIL MESSAGE IS FROM THE INTERNET AND MAY HAVE BEEN READ, COPIED, OR MODIFIED BY USERS OTHER THAN INTENDED RECIPIENTS. - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I said: >> Anyway, at Dixie Cups we now empower the stewards with another task. >> They are supposed to pick up the judgeing sheets right after the beer is >>done, check the math, check that comments have been written, and check >> that the comments are appropriate. Stewards are >indeed people, and important in the judging process. They are not people >important in judging to the point that they are, or can be expected to be, >independant experts in judge quality. Checking math is a good idea, and >many competitions ask the stewards to do that. Passing judgement on >judges' work is a very different concept. I need to respond to Fred who takes me slightly out of context when he posts the above. Stewards are not capable of passing judgements on judge quality. If they were, they would be judges and judges would be stewards. (twilight zone music here). But anyone can cruise a score sheet for a comment like "this beer sucks" or "this beer made me gag". The most important things to know about judge etiquette were learned in kindergarten. But if a steward is drinking a beer along with the judges (common sight), and the steward has a good palate (also not uncommon), and the steward disagrees with a judges polite evaluatory comments concerning any aspect of the beer, the steward has to just sit on their opinion. If they get really upset, maybe next time they will judge. Hopefully, no one would ever get that upset. andy thomaar at texaco.com ------------------------------ End of judge-digest V1 #1267 **************************** Send subscription cancellations & changes to judge-request at synchro.com.
