We have not had anywhere near the time necessary to compile such date on a purely statistical basis. From my own experience as an organizer I can only offer that Pale Ales, Stouts, and recently Specialty beers have attracted the most entries. I don't think there are any ratios to expect x# of entries for x# of announcements. It is just too variable a hobby built on a very small base. The BJCP will attempt to address some of the novice concerns requested but it will take us some time to get to it. We are still hot and heavy into the basics of reorganization and filling posts with able volunteers. ALSO: Be advised that the points award for the 1996 AHA First Round sites is still the same as in recent years. 1 point for the first session attended, .5 points for each following session attended with a max of 1.5 points per day and 3 points for the event. Anyone who attends all the sessions at a site will get 3 points regardless of the number of actual sessions held. Hang in there. RW... AHA gives that through Zymurgy. I'll keep saying this until I'm blue in the face, I guess. YOU DO NOT NEED TO SANCTION WITH THE AHA IN ORDER TO GET LISTED IN THE CALENDAR IN ZYMURGY!!!!!!! Sorry for shouting, but I've said this several times, in this forum, in the last few months. A phone call or e-mail to the AHA with the particulars will suffice. =Spencer Thomas in Ann Arbor, MI (spencer at umich.edu) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Apr 1996 17:09:16 -0400 From: Rick Garvin Subject: Washington, DC: Call For Judges BURP presents the fourth annual Nation's Capital "Spirit of Free Beer" on Saturday May 18. I perceive it as a sharp drying out on my tongue. I have experienced this sensation both in homebrewed and commercial beers where black malts are used. However, I am able to distinguish somewhat between the astringency from black malts and that from other causes. Perhaps "astringency" is neither the cause nor correct term for this perception that I get from black malts, however it is the term I currently use. I do not deduct for it if it is properly balanced in a beer that should contain some black malt character. ------------------------------ End of JudgeNet Digest ************************ -------
