At CABA we do this for statistics, and I might add that I've never seen an obvious bias in terms of these categories (I find good brewers will win with extract or all-grain), so I'm not sure if it is worthwhile to keep doing this. It is redundant to identify this at the top and again through the recipe. I think we will change our form this year! b) BJCP vs AHA This is one I'd love the 'right' answer to. As CABA Judge & Competitions Chairman, I feel I should represent my Canadian judges. Therefore, I want their points registered accurately and quickly (ie. choose BJCP sanctioning). However, as a Competition organizer, we need lots of entries too survive - therefore we need good publicity. AHA gives that through Zymurgy. So, what do we do? If we sanction with both, that takes money out of members pockets (our profits are used for publications and events). I wish they had never split, but since they did, we need to decide. If AHA sanctioning ensured points registration with the BJCP, then I suppose we would not need to BJCP sanction. However, I'm told that in the future this will not be the case. So, I have no choice but to sanction with BJCP to get points registered with them (I'm assuming that AHA has not yet set up a points registration system). And, I feel that BJCP is philosophically the right organization because it is a neutral standalone body. If what I read here in the last while is true, we do not necessarily need to sanction with the AHA to get press in Zymurgy. This solves the issue I think. Therefore, I plan to recommend to the CABA Board that we do BJCP sanctioning only after the current competition is over. Does anyone have any advice for me on this?
