These excerpts may be considered out of context, but they really do bother me. First you say: > There was some misunderstanding that I was suggesting > that we should go back to long forgotten beverage profiles. Then in the following paragraphs you say: >Hippocras is ... Its origin is ... >Pyment seems ... Historically it had ... >Braggot with ... Historically it was ... >Cyser ... Until the 16th century most cider was ... Please try for some consistency. First you say that you are not advocating old beverage profiles, but then in every case your primary argument is to historical styles. The problem with history is that it is so vast that examples can be quoted to "prove" any social or political statement. Unfortunately, the history of beverages is equally prone to "proof". Sometimes it is an unconcious or unknown bias based upon the sources that someone is familiar with. Your overly rigorous attempts to narrowly define styles really annoys me sometimes, but then you probably think think that I have a devil may care attitude and would allow anything into a competition. We must try to meet somewhere in the middle. By the way, here in New Mexico, we have had one of our mildest winters, not enough snow or cold weather to feel quite like winter. But then I grew up in Minnesota, and loved it. FWIW, we were told that Boston Beer Co. plans to repeat their World Homebrew Contest again this year. They are hoping to bring the winners' beers to market by Jan. 1997 and plan to have the first round judging in the early part of August. There was no discussion about adding other judging sites, so the judges in Boston sincerely hope that many other judges from around the country (and world) plan on coming to Beantown for the first round judging! Those of you who plan on entering should be looking at getting your beer to Boston in late July or early August (great time of year to ship it across the country, eh?) Well, Belgium actually, for 10 days in March. We've got some ideas and arrangements made already, but we're pretty flexible at this point. I'm looking for beer-hunting feedback - favorite places, don't miss breweries, etc. Also germane web-sites. Are there any Belgian breweries with web pages? Any guidance or ideas would be very much appreciated. Tom "Yeast Beast" Martyn TMartyn at aol.com Brattleboro, VT ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Feb 1996 09:57:52 +0000 From: "Lee C. To have any bank account you must have a Federal Identification Number. It is my understanding that the BJCP does not have a FIN; therefore it has no bank account. Jim Link has a bank account where he is holding the monies of the BJCP and paying taxes on interest those monies earn. As the BJCP is an entity that receives and disburses money it is subject to the tax laws. Based on the information that I have it appears that BJCP is and has been a taxable entity since its inception. Also to the best of my knowledge the BJCP has never filed a tax return. It is therefore possible that the BJCP is liable for filing income tax returns for the past ten years or so and could be liable for taxes, penalties and interest. Al Folsom stated that he wouldn't have me near his corporate books. I think that if he objected to me in his books it is because he is cheating on his income taxes and stealing money from his corporation. Do I believe the above, no, but it is in the same vein as the comments that Al made about my professional expertise. Cheap shot. Look at what is being said rather then how it is being said. This forum isn't important enough to spend too much on making sure that I have said correctly. If I were being paid for sending in posts let me assure you that the grammar and spelling would be correct. You just gave me a cheap shot. Al, you did not refute the information I presented. By the by accountants don't have to be able to spell much to do a wonderful job of screwing the IRS and saving their clients lots of money. Quite frequently Judgenet becomes a bit dull. To liven up my day I enter posts to this forum that I believe will create the most flack and thrash. It is interesting how very few of you will answer a direct question. Perhaps you don't understand the question. More likely the question comes a little too close to home. Because of the possibility of your being found out you answer the question with a half truth, with an answer to a different question, or dwell on spelling errors or poor grammar. So many of you in corporate America have become so afraid of losing your jobs, because you job should not have been created in the first place, that all you know how to do is CYA. I feel sorry for those of you who will lose your jobs, but leave it at the door.
