I think you will find that my post of the other day as described by Greg Walz does not quite make the definititoin. I'm pleased that you are offended by my remarks abet they were not offhand and I meant every bit of them. >Normally still another diatribe from Mr. Giffen would >give me little more than amusement. But speaking as one >of the seven Board members of the BJCP My name is Mr. Giffin, please be kind enough to spell it correctly. Paddy may take offence to you use of his name. > If we rush into incorporation we could wind up with a non-workable >organization with all the flaws of the previous BJCP. It appears to me that you have meet the above. Our BOD hasn't avoided the problem of the old BJCP, but have continued them. Greg you have avoided the problem of the bank account. Do we or do we not have a legal and valid bank account in the name of the BJCP? >Mr. Giffin does not appear to have had much experience with >non-profits or he'd understand the work that's involved >to do this, and, more importantly, do it RIGHT. My, my it is amazing how much you know about Mr. Giffin, Greg. Did you know that Mr. Giffin practiced as a C.P.A. for over twenty year? Did you know that as part of that practice Mr. Giffin had a number of not for profit clients for whom he prepared financial statements and tax returns Did you know that Mr. Giffin helped a number of clients to apply for and receive tax exempt status? Maybe Gregg that I, Mr. Giffin, know a bit more about not for profit then you do. And if I don't at least I know where to find the information. At the rate that the BJCP is moving it will be at least another year before the BJCP receives tax exempt status. Perhaps with your lack of understanding, Gregg, you should be offended; not by what I have said, but in the inability of the BOD to accomplish the mandate set forth by the interim Board. I hope that you and the rest of the BOD would feel insulted enough to get on with what you are supposed to be doing and not complain about how hard you have been working. WORKING HARD IS NOT THE SAME AS WORKING SMART. Right now I don't see anyone accusing you of working smart. May the road rise to meet you. A beer is flawed or it is not. A dry hopped Bohemian Pilsner made with a little sour mash and decocted is not more difficult to brew than any other beer if you know how, have the equipment and are willing to take the time. The original post made reference to a rational that a dark beer covers many sins, and a pale brew can not. If judges adopt this concept, whenever there is any problem deciding BoS, just order them by color and pick the lightest. Bud beats Guiness every time, even though they are probably equally good examples of their particular style. Zima can not be beaten. If you are down to 2 possibilities for BoS, and judges can not decide, the organizer should a) award 2 BoS, or b) flip a coin. IMO, a coin toss makes as much sense as a penalty shot resolution to a tie soccer game. The beers were proven equal, but one lost the toss and became less equal. If there are more than 2 which can not be resolved, try the most favored technique. Each judge ranks the beers from 1 to N, where N is the number of contenders. Each judge gives his top choice N, his second choice N-1, and so on. After all the judges vote, add the scores for each entry. The one with the most points wins. It should, since it is the one most acceptable to the most judges. If all else fails, number the beers from 1 to N, make out N slips of paper, mix in a hat and draw the winner. Given that all the finalists are judged to be equal, and if only 1 BoS can be awarded, IMO any of these methods of selection are valid. Most difficult to make is never a valid criterion.
