Lansing" Subject: Bashing I think 'Bashing' maybe a bit strong for the comments made; perhaps the projected January start date of the AHA's judge program has some people feeling a little edgy and it is coming out online. I for one feel a little unsettled by it; I would have liked to say, "Ha,_we_got it done first." We should think about the constraints that online discussions put on the thought flow. It is certainly not the optimum way to hold corporate planning sessions. I am not trying to make excuses for anyone; I only hope the few points that are holding up the bylaws are truly monumental and worth keeping everyone on edge.(It's not the dues thing is it?) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Jan 1996 23:35:54 -0500 From: drbeer at tiac.net (drbeer) Subject: time line At 01:15 AM 1/4/96 EST, Dennis wrote: >Well, the by-laws have to be ratified by the membership before the >incorporation. While I appreciate the goal that this be done right the first time, the real world often dictates otherwise. While the final five percent gets polished the organization lingers on in a vague state without an ability to truly move forward. I personally believe sufficient time has elapsed that unless the remaining issues are very quickly resolved the organization should be created anyway with the realization that future elections will help clarify what direction the organization should pursue and that bylaw modifications will be likely down the road and should be welcomed not feared. No matter how good a job you do or how much foresight you possess you can not predict how the organization will need to change and in my opinion it is better to put something in place understanding that it is work in progress and allowing the democratic process to guide this than to believe you can build something perfect on the first try if only you have a little more time.
