Mike Montgomery mlm01 at intgp1.att.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Apr 1995 08:06:27 -0700 From: Richard B. Webb Subject: Getting the word out... As the (former) scribe for the Seattle based club known as the Brews Brothers, I receintly published the original letter from Karen Barela, stating that the AHA was pulling out of the BJCP. I also published our Pres-Bro's response. Darryl Richman had a lot of questions as to what was the cause of the split, and what was going to happen in the future. One of the joys of being responsible for the newsletter is that when people have questions about the news in it, they call me. Last night, Ms. Grace Neilson, who in past years has been responsible for organizing the beer tasting and judging portion of the Puyallup fair, called me and asked me (in a nutshell) what the heck's going on! She wanted to know how this split was going to affect the fair's judging, who she needed to contact regarding confirmation, accredidation, and sanctioning. I'm sorry to say that I didn't have the answers. I was able to tell her that there has been a great deal of discussion on the judge-net, but while I am a faithful reader of same, I had no clue whatsoever as to who she could call for more information. Well, who can she call? Who's in charge now? Do we have one organization, or two? She proposed to attend the meeting of the Brotherhood on Sat. night, so I will have the opportunity to tell her. Providing of course that we actually know. I guess that the most important thing that I want to communicate here is that the word (about the split, and what the new form of the BJCP is) has not gotten out to the troops, or even a few of the generals. Not everyone is a neuron in the global consciousness of computer communication. Every club in every state needs to have this information in order to better plan future competitions. And the word has not gotten out... Awaiting the enlightenment that comes with information, Rich Webb, reluctant liasion. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 04 Apr 1995 21:10:42 -0500 (EST) From: DOUBLEGG at delphi.com Subject: AHA National Homebrew Competition - Firs 1995 National Homebrew Competition American Homebrewers Association Norwalk Regional - First Round Keith A. Symonds, Bill Woodring, Dave Gannon, Gregg Glaser -- Organizers c/o New England Brewing Company 13 Marshall Street Norwalk, CT 06854 To All Judges: The First Round judging of the 1995 National Homebrew Competition will take place on April 29 and 30 at the New England Brewing Company in historic South Norwalk, Connecticut. We need your assistance to make this event a success. Judging will once again take place in three closed sessions -- two sessions on Saturday and one final session on Sunday. As usual, on Saturday night there will be a Beer Extravaganza. The New England Brewing Company is looking forward to hosting us this year and especially showing off their brand new facility. Complete tours of the brewery will be available to all interested parties during the weekend. (The organizing committee has an "in" with one of New England's brewers.) To make reservations to judge and steward you must contact Bill Woodring no later than Saturday, April 22, 1995. Preference will be given to those making the earliest reservations. With this central location we anticipate the possibility of having too many judges -- so reserve your place as soon as possible. No one will be allowed to judge who has not completed the BJCP Exam. People who have not completed the exam may only participate as stewards. You may reach Bill at 914-896-5476 between 7:00 pm and 10:00 pm by phone, or at 30 Broad Street, Fishkill, NY 12524. Rooms have been reserved for the event at the Holiday Inn of Norwalk. Please make room reservations directly by calling 203-853-3477. Tell them you're with the AHA National Homebrew Competition to receive a special rate of $65.00 per room. We made our plans to improve upon last year's successes to insure an even greater experience for all concerned. We hope that you'll be able to join us.
