(WALZENBREW) Annual BJCP mailing (Greg Holton) First Call For Judges (Dennis Davison) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 17 Mar 95 17:10:46 MST From: hall at galt.c3.lanl.gov (Michael L. Hall) Subject: Transferral of points and scores Most (all?) of the suggested replacements for or enhancements to the BJCP have mentioned that judges from the old system will be transferred to the new system with their rank intact. I think that this is good, but not sufficient. I think that some provision should be made to transfer experience points and test scores as well, since there are probably many people in the situation of having experience points or test scores above their current rank. If a new program is started which doesn't have anything comparable to points or scores, then some formula should be developed to equitably convert points and scores into "steins" (or whatever name the new units have). For example, *IF* a program is developed that has no experience points, then a person's experience points above those necessary for their current rank could be added to their highest test score. Or some fraction could be added. This should be open for debate. -Mike (gone on travel next week so won't be responding to responses) - --------- Dr. Michael L. Just received a package (Sat. morning) of the latest HWBTA competition guideline package and score sheets. Wow. Wish I had this on Thursday. My experience with HWBTA-sanctioned competitions is about a year out of date. A lot has apparently happened during the past year to improve and make more comprehensive the HWBTA sanctioning package. The latest Competition Guidelines document (dated July 9, 1994) is about as comprehensive and complete a document as I have ever seen in terms of what's required of the organizer and other personnel, finance calculations, logistics, etc. Form copies are also included, and these are for the most part equal to or better than any of their counterparts produced by the AHA. In fact, a fine resolution style guidelines chart was also included in this document. OK, I was very wrong in my last posting, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. But I'm not sure that many organizers out there are aware of how comprehensive the HWBTA sanctioning program and documentation has become. If anything, this package has convinced me that I will never again be reluctant to sanction with HWBTA in the future (if such sanctioning is still offered), and that if the New BJCP is allowed to use this documentation, their sanctioning program will be at least the equal of the AHA's. I hope these two postings will act to publicize the fact that the HWBTA sanctioning package is now excellent and comprehensive, something I'm sure quite a few of us were not aware of. Does anyone know what's going on with that? According to my records, my status should have changed from recognized to certified last June, but I have never received any acknowlegement of that. All of this talk about independence, democracy, etc., in my mind is secondary to basic record keeping and timely communication.
