Ford" Subject: What to do? I'd like to toss a question or three out for comment. What do think would be the effect on the AHA Nationals this year of a boycott by experienced judges as a show of support for one and only one judges certification program, the BJCP? How much support among BJCP judges do you think there would be for such a boycott? What might be the long-term repercussions, both positive and negative, of such action? I'm not necessarily in favor of such a boycott, at least not at the present time. Just putting out some feelers to see if it would be a viable weapon in what may well turn into a war between the BJCP and the AHA's new program. Whadaya think? Allen =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Allen L. As has been written before, this fee should be paid either by the judge or the competition. It would seem to be more efficient to have the competition do the paperwork since it would be a small addition to the paperwork they already perform. The costs would be recouped by increasing the entry fee. However, provision must be made for those competitons who (for whatever reason) do not want to bother. In these cases, the judges would pay the fee if they wanted their points recorded. I think this would be a selling point for competitions to attract judges ("we pay all fees") but would allow smaller competitions or those with many non-BJCP judges to opt out, yet BJCP judges could still earn points. This all being said, if the new BJCP is going to perform other functions more typical of an association (newsletter, advocacy, conferences, etc.) then some form of dues would be appropriate and I beleive it would be *inappropriate* to have competition organizers and entries fund the association. I guess it just boils down to what sort of BJCP we want -- a recorder of information or something more along the lines of a "professional" certification organization. As a side note, has anybody researched what other "hobbies" do about judges? There must be many similar organizations for flower shows, dog shows, etc. etc. Their organization may provide some insite into how we could structure ours.
