I found it to be quite a sweet beer, surprisingly, considering its alcohol content. In comparison to Traquir House, I was quite disappointed. Re: BJCP Info Recently, I asked the AHA to send out the latest info on the BJCP and was surprised to see the "Unofficial" Study Guide sent out with it, minus the work "Unofficial". Chuck, is it becoming official? Re: The Beer Enthusiast's Guide So has anyone gotten a glimpse of this book, that Chuck reviewed? I am interested to hear if it is worth a read. Glenn raudins at Elan2.coryphaeus.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Apr 94 20:27:46 -0400 From: "Phillip R. Seitz" Subject: California Common and other categories In my totally slanted opinion California Common is a completely, absolutely bogus category. I defy anybody to pick out the "steam" beers from a random lineup if they can't see the labels. Is Fritz a big donor to the AHA or something? I may be the only one here, but I think that we should have fewer categories, not less. In any case things as they stand are quite inconsistent: scads of different beers are lumped together under "Belgian Ale" but we have categories for every conceivable microcategory of stout. Gimme a break. As a (currently obnoxious) Belgophile, I don't think putting the white beers with the German wheats will do anybody any good. Change the Flanders Brown misnomer to Oud Bruin, which is what everybody but Michael Jackson knows them by (Veille Brune if you speak French). Having a Trappist category is also unfortunate, as I don't know many homebrewers who've taken vows to anything except brewing and marriage, and you don't need to be a monk to sell a double in Belgium. The same could possibly be said for lambics, but I'm waiting to see if Al Korzonas has any spider webs in his basement before passing judgement. ------------------------------ End of JudgeNet Digest ************************
