Generally all sounds fine. I would add body to the III) Characteristics, or at least include it with c) flavor as "body & flavor" since both occur in the mouth. Why not include some examples of actual questions? (Certainly the BJCP people could put a few in the AHA Study Guide) I thought it would have been most helpful to have had a few examples of the types of questions prior to my first taking the exam. These could be questions which are never used so as to avoid an unfair advantage. Such examples go a long way toward giving the examinee a feel for the scope of the questions. This is especially helpful to those who have not had to take essay exams recently. RW... Yes, I consider body/mouthfeel to be an aspect fo flavor, but it wouldn't hurt to make that clear in the outline. >Why not include some examples of actual questions? > > Russ Wigglesworth All your points about giving example questions are valid. Perhaps I am being overly conservative, but since I have administered the exam a couple of times, I am trying to avoid anything that could be construed as disclosure of actual exam questions. This is compounded by the fact that I haven't seen all of the questions that are used, but I could probably make very good guesses at what some of those questions are. Perhaps I should 'officially' request some example questions from the BJCP. Another idea I am considering is listing some generic fill-in-the-blanks type of question templates, like: Name two beers, and describe the style. Describe, relate, and differentiate between . What properties does the brewmaster expect from , what are the sources of these characteristics and what are the principal means of extraction. Explain the benefits of . As I stated in the original posting, I hope to make the study guide a collaborative effort, so I would appreciate any example questions you might provide. ----- Chuck Cox SynchroSystems chuck%synchro at uunet.uu.net -------------------------------------- From JudgeNet Wed Dec 4 10:26:41 1991 Subject: Re: re- BJCP study guide Reply to: RE>re: BJCP study guide >Another idea I am considering is listing some generic fill-in-the-blanks >type of question templates (examples followed). OK, I like the idea of these. They provide the example of the possible scope of the essays which would be a big help to first time exam takers. Here's some more to add if you like: What is a and how does it function in the brewing process? Why is it important to be able to measure with regard to brewing? From what area of the world do come or originate? Explain what is unique about this region with respect to this beer style. At a judging session, you detect a in an entry. Describe, as you would to the brewer, what the possible causes of this characteristic are. RW... --------------------------------------
